A new aeronautic Clean Sky 2 project takes off today in Aitiip

In Zaragoza (Spain) where Aitiip facilities are located, the launching of a new aeronautic project have been celebrated.

The project is entitled FALCON (Fully automated, controlled and versatile system for low cost, high rate and energy efficient production of highly loaded aeronautical structural parts) and the objective of this project is to design and manufacture an innovative tooling system to produce composite parts for airplanes. To achieve this goal a budget of 496.250€ will be invested in 18 months.

The benefits of Falcon will be a 40% of tooling reduction, a 30% time reduction and a 20% of costs reduction. Aernnova, the company who is the project topic manager, has also participated in the meeting.

Pascual Gracia, Aitiip aeronautic responsible has declared “this project is a great technological challenge for us, because it involves composites automatized production, but we are very confident on overcoming all the risks successfully”

Aeronautic sector is Aitiip second biggest sector in terms of annual turnover. The technological centre has continuously increased it workload in aeronautics by developing different toolings, tools, prototypes and mock-up with 3D printing technologies or by CNC machines. National and international companies like Airbus, Aerotecnic and Aciturri trust Aitiip for its developments.

Clean Sky 2

Falcon is the second Clean Sky 2 project coordinated by Aitiip, being WinBoxTool the first one.

The project is funded under the Clean Sky 2 Large Passenger Aircraft IADP (LPA) programme. Clean Sky 2 is the largest European research programme developing innovative, cutting-edge technology aimed at reducing CO2, gas emissions and noise levels produced by aircraft.

Funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme, Clean Sky contributes to strengthening European aero-industry collaboration, global leadership and competitiveness.
